I was having 40 winks in the early evening yesterday. Mrs W claims that I had fallen asleep with my hand over one side of my face, propping open an eyelid. She encountered me with one eye closed and the other glazed eye open, staring towards the ceiling.
At first she assumed me to be dead and was looking for my insurance policy, but then heard a contented snore.
She lovingly closed the open eyelid.
How exactly is it possible to sleep with one eye open? Would it be possible for a human to sleep with both eyes open, do you think? Birds do it. Bees do it. Even educated fleas do it, so I suppose it's just about conceivable.
